Susan received the "World Lifetime Achievement Award" at the 2006 Women's World Awards in New York.

Susan married her fellow student in college, Chris Sarandon in 1967. The couple was divorced in 1979.

Sarandon and the Hollywood director Franco Amurri dated and together have a daughter named Eva Amurri, who is also a famous American actress.

Susan currently is in a live-in relationship with the actor Tim Robbins since 1985. They together have two sons namely Jack Henry, born in 1989 and Miles Guthrie born in 1992.

Susan is known for her support to progressive and left-liberal political causes. She collected donations for the political action committee (PAC) organization in USA such as EMILY's List. In 1983, she participated in a delegation to Nicaragua sponsored by MADRE, an organization that promotes "social environmental and economic justice."

Susan Sarandon has been philanthropically involved in organizations like Heifer International, an organization that donates farm animals to needy families who need the animals for work. She extends her support to various tolerance and human rights organizations.

In 1999, Susan Sarandon was appointed as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

Sarandon appeared in a series of political ads sponsored by Ben Cohen's organization, TrueMajority.

Sarandon has actively participated along with American anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan in a 2006 Mother's Day protest, which was sponsored by "Code Pink: Women for Peace", an anti-war group that was started in the lead up to the Iraq War.

In 2006, Susan was selected as one of eight women to carry the Olympic flag at the Opening Ceremony of the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin, Italy.

Susan Sarandon is very good friends with fellow Hollywood actress Julia Roberts.
